Migrate from Old Kaltura to New Kaltura

Information on migrating from the old Kaltura System to the New Kaltura system. Old Kaltura will be inaccessible on June 30, 2020

Many faculty and staff are aware of our online video storage that goes by a few names, My Media, Kaltura and Mediaspace. If you’ve created a podcast, used lecture capture, had videos converted to digital format or have had videos created and added to campus webpages or courses, you most likely have videos stored in your MyMedia/Kaltura account.

When UW System changed from D2L to Canvas, it also caused some changes to your MyMedia/Kaltura video storage account. A new UW System-wide version of MyMedia/Kaltura was created, that all UW System schools now share. With this shared storage environment, most videos created in the “old” MyMedia/Kaltura were copied to the “new” version. While the “old” version of Kaltura still exists, the videos that now get created in Canvas get saved to the “new” version. There are still several ways to accidentally upload to the “old” version of Kaltura. Links posted to videos saved on the “old” version have continued to work. On June 30, the “old” version of MyMedia/Kaltura will cease to exist and all videos stored there, and links to those videos will no longer be accessible. At that time the videos will be permanently deleted and will no longer be available to you or to any UW System admins.

Compare old and new system

To ensure that all the videos you use remain available, you will need to confirm that the videos have been properly transferred to the “new” version. To do so, you will need to manually look at your list of videos in both versions and if anything from the “old “ version is not in the “new” version, and you will be needing it in the future, it will need to be copied.
