Adobe Acrobat - Modifying Pages

This guide will show you how to modify existing pages to change their look and orientation.

Being able to modify pages is very important in case a page in a received PDF was put in wrong, as if it were scanned upside down or sideways.
Rotating Pages

Rotating pages allows pages to be flipped 360˚ clockwise or counterclockwise.
  1. Select Organize Pages from the tool pane.
  2. Place the cursor over the page which needs to be rotated. Left-click and release.
  3. Select one of the two rotate tools from the Organize Pages Toolbar.
    • m1For counterclockwise rotations.
    • m2For clockwise rotations.
These rotate controls can also be found in the Page Thumbnails section of the Navigation Pane.

Cropping Pages

Cropping pages allows parts of PDF’s to be taken out so they do not show up in the PDF anymore, but the rest of the page is still viewable.
  1. Navigate to the desired page using the Document view.
  2. Select Edit PDF tool from the Tool Pane.
  3. From the Edit PDF Toolbar, select the Crop Pages tool. m3
  4. Place the cursor in the top left-hand corner of the area which should not be cropped out.
  5. Draw a box around the area which should not be cropped out by left-clicking, holding, and dragging the cursor to form the box.
  6. Press return/enter to bring up the Set Page Boxes window.
  7. Make sure both “Constrain Proportions” and “Remove White Margins” are unchecked.
  8. Select OK.

Extracting Pages

If only a few pages need to be sent to someone or if a page needs to deleted from a PDF, extracting pages is the way to go about preserving the rest of the PDF.
  1. Navigate to the Page Thumbnails view.
  2. To extract a contiguous range of pages, select the Options Tool from the Page Thumbnails toolbar.
    1. From the dropdown menu, select Extract Pages.
    2. Type in the range of pages that should be extracted.
    3. Select the option to delete the pages if that is required.
    4. Press OK.
    5. The extracted pages will be put into a new PDF titled “Pages from [PDF name]”.
  3. To extract non-contiguous pages, select the Organize Pages tool from the Tool Pane.
    1. On PC, Ctrl + Left Click the pages to be extracted. On Mac, Cmd + Left Click the pages to be extracted.
    2. From the Organize Pages Toolbar, select the Extract Pages tool. m4
    3. Select the option to delete the pages if that is required.
    4. Select Extract from the toolbar underneath the Organize Pages Toolbar.
    5. The extracted pages will be put into a New PDF titled “Pages from [PDF name]”.
The Extract Pages tool within Organize Pages also allows options such as extracting all even pages, all odd pages, or landscape pages. It is much more powerful than just extracting from the thumbnails pane.
