ResNet - Using Ethernet In Your Residence Hall
How to access a wired ethernet connection in UW Oshkosh Residence Halls.
Your Ethernet Connection Depends on the Hall You Are In
All halls have at least 1 ethernet port per person.
- Donner: room dependent, Network Switch or Wireless Access Point
- Evans: room dependent, Network Switch or Wireless Access Point
- Fletcher: Active Ethernet wall jacks
- Horizon Village: Active Ethernet wall jacks
- South Gruenhagen: room dependent, Network Switch or Wireless Access Point
- North Scott: room dependent, Network Switch or Wireless Access Point
- South Scott: room dependent, Network Switch or Wireless Access Point
- Stewart: room dependent, Network Switch or Wireless Access Point
- Taylor: Active Ethernet wall jacks
- Webster: room dependent, Network Switch or Wireless Access Point
How to Set Up the Network Switch
This is NOT a wireless router. Devices will need to be connected via ethernet cable to the switch.
- Plug the power cable into your switch and into the wall, the green power light should be on.
- Connect the orange ethernet cable to and port on the back of the switch and one of the following dependent on residence hall:
- NO Wireless Access Point - Scotts, Gruenhagen, Evans, Stewart, Donner, Webster: Plug the other end of the orange ethernet cable into the black port on the wall.
- Wireless Access Point - Scotts, Gruenhagen, Evans, Stewart, Donner, Webster: Plug the other end of the orange ethernet cable into any other port but black on the wireless access point.
- Taylor, Fletcher, Horizon: Plug the other end of the orange ethernet cable into an ACTIVE orange port on the wall.
- Connect all other devices via ethernet cable to the network switch.
