Canvas - Comparison of Videoconferencing and Lecture Capture Tools (Collaborate Ultra, Kaltura, PowerPoint with audio, and Microsoft Teams)

There are multiple ways to meet synchronously with students online and/or to record lectures that can be shared in Canvas. Features overlap but there are pros/cons for using each. This article looks at Collaborate Ultra, Kaltura, PowerPoint with audio, and Microsoft Teams.

There are multiple ways to meet synchronously with students online and/or to record lectures that can be shared in Canvas. Features overlap but there are pros/cons for using each.

·       Collaborate Ultra allows for student participation through video conferencing, including instructor controls and screen sharing.

·       Kaltura Capture has screen sharing and lecture capture without video conferencing.

·       PowerPoint presentations can be saved as videos with recorded audio. It is easy to edit audio on just one slide and re-record.

·       MSTeams was developed for office use but can now be integrated in Canvas too.
