D2L - Adding Films on Demand

Films on Demand is a service available through Polk Library. The videos are all educational in nature and can easily be incorporated into your D2L course.

Add Film on Demand Videos to D2L

Films on Demand is a service available through Polk Library.  It is a great resource to add video to your D2L Course Site.

Video Tutorial

Method #1: Embed via D2L

  1. Open the object in D2L (News Item, Content Item, Discussion, etc)
  2. Click the Insert stuff button in the content editor.
    Insert Stuff Image
  3. Click Films on Demand from the panel on the left
  4. Enter your Search terms in the field provided
  5. Use the dropdown to select where you would like to search (Film Titles, segments, or transcripts).
  6. Click Search (red magnifying glass)
  7. A list of videos that match your search criteria will be displayed, click the blue Preview button to watch each clip.

  8. When you find a video that meets your objective, click the Embed Button
    FOD embed Button
  9. You will be returned to D2L.  The video will be displayed with the opportunity to preview one more time.
  10. Click Insert
  11. Add any additional text or restrictions to the item.
  12. Click Save/Publish


Method 2#: Link Via Films on Demand

  1. Go to the Polk Library Website
  2. Use the Research Database dropdown to select Films on Demand
    FOD on Polk Website
  3. Enter your Search terms in the field provided.
  4. Use the dropdown to select where you would like to search (Film Titles, segments, or transcripts).
  5. Click Search (red magnifying glass).
  6. A list of videos that match your search criteria will be displayed.  Click the Video Title to Preview it.
  7. When you find a video that meets your objective, copy the link from the field towards the bottom of the page.
  8. Go to D2L and click Content > New > Create a Link
  9. Add a title for the Content Item in the space provided.
  10. Paste the URL into the appropriate field.
  11. Click the box to Open as an External Resource
  12. Click Create
Troubleshooting Tips
  • Films on Demand is a Subscription based Service, only UW Oshkosh users are allowed to use it.  If accessing a video from the campus network videos will play immediately.  If accessing videos from a home network, users will be prompted to enter their NetID before the video will display.

  5. Click Search (red magnifying glass).
  6. A list of videos that match your search criteria will be displayed.  Click the Video Title to Preview it.
  7. When you find a video that meets your objective, copy the link from the field towards the bottom of the page.
  8. Go to D2L and click Content > New > Create a Link
  9. Add a title for the Content Item in the space provided.
  10. Paste the URL into the appropriate field.
  11. Click the box to Open as an External Resource

  • Films on Demand is a Subscription based Service, only UW Oshkosh users are allowed to use it.  If accessing a video from the campus network videos will play immediately.  If accessing videos from a home network, users will be prompted to enter their NetID before the video will display.
