D2L - Adding PBS Videos to D2L

This document gives you information on the PBS video service available through Polk Library. Instructions for adding videos to D2L are provided.

PBS Videos in D2L

Videos are a great way to enhance student learning.  Polk Library currently subscribes to the PBS video series, videos from the site can be added to D2L through a variety of methods.

Video Tutorial


Method #1: Embed via PBS

  1. Go to the Polk Library Website
  2. Use the Research Databases dropdown to select PBS Video Collection
  3. Enter your search terms in the space provided (upper right of page) or use the links to browse for a video.
  4. When you find a video that will meet your objective, click the Embed/Link button located below the video.
  5. Copy the Embed Code

  6. Go to D2L and open an object (News Item, Content Item, Discussion, etc) that will hold the video.
  7. Click the Insert Stuff icon from the Content Editor

  8. Click Enter Embed Code from the panel on the left
  9. Paste the copied text into the space provided
  10. Click Next
  11. If desired, preview the video. Click Insert
  12. Add any additional text or restrictions to the D2L item
  13. Click Save/Publish

Method #2: Link via PBS

  1. Go to the Polk Library Website
  2. Use the Research Databases dropdown to select PBS Video Collection
  3. Enter your search terms in the space provided (upper right of page) or use the links to browse for a video.
  4. When you find a video that will meet your objective, click the Embed/Link button located below the video.
  5. Copy the URL

  6. Go to D2L and click Content > New > Create a Link
  7. Paste the URL into the space provided
  8. Give the D2L Item a Title
  9. Click the box to Open as an External Resource
  10. Click Create
