Audacity - Making Selections
This document gives you the basic skill set to do basic selection editing.
The most fundamental editing concept to understand is one found in word processors. Just like when going to change the font or color or some text in a word processor, the text desired to be changed must be selected first. When working with audio in Audacity, first select the section of audio that needs to be edited.
Making a Selection
- Select the Selection tool (looks like the cursor icon from word processors) from the Audacity Tools Toolbar.
- Click at the beginning of the portion of the track which needs to be selected.
- Hold down the mouse-button and drag to the desired end point of the selection. Alternatively, if the mouse-button is released, the cursor turns into a pointer finger, which can be used to drag the selection to the desired end point.
- If the selection doesn’t have all of the desired sound, or too much, hold down the Shift Key and drag the selection tool to the desired spot.
