PDFs from Adobe Programs

This guide will show you how to turn files from Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign into Adobe PDFs which can be opened in Acrobat.

PDFs can be saved from Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign and then opened in Acrobat. Changes can be made in Acrobat and then the PDF can be sent back to its original program in its native format. 

PDFs from Illustrator

  1. Go to File > Save a Copy.
  2. Change the file format to Adobe PDF and choose the file destination.
  3. Select Save.
  4. Make sure the checkbox next to Preserve Illustrator Editing Capabilities is checked, as is this allows the PDF file to be opened back up in Illustrator as if it was an Illustrator file. 
There are many more customizable options available in saving a PDF from illustrator but those can be chosen at your discretion. 

PDFs from InDesign

  1. Go to File > Export.
  2. Select either the Adobe PDF (Interactive) or Adobe PDF (Print) file format as needed.
    • Interactive offers a variety of unique features.
    • Print will save the work as a standard PDF although the options are customizable.
It is suggested to find out the specifications required by the recipient before saving the PDF.

PDF from Photoshop

  1. Go to File > Save As > Photoshop PDF
  2. Select Save.
  3. Select OK.
  4. In the Save Adobe PDF window, make sure the checkbox by Preserve Photoshop Editing Capabilities is checked so that changes can be made if the PDF is brought back into Photoshop. 
There are many more customizable options available in saving a PDF from Photoshop but those can be chosen at your discretion.
