iMovie - Using the Library Pane and Browser

This article details how to use the library pane and browser.

The Library Pane and Browser are used together to look through clips that have been imported.

Library Pane and Events

Clips are organized by “event” in the Library Pane. When media (clips, videos, etc.) is imported into iMovie, it must be placed within an event. New events can be created by right-clicking on iMovie Library and choosing New Event.

Using the Browser

Selecting an event by clicking on it in the Library Pane will bring up all of the media contained in the event in the Browser. From here, clips or portions of clips can be selected and previewed using the Viewer Pane. In order to play a clip:

  1. Click somewhere on a clip to set the cursor at that point, or click and drag on a clip to select a portion of the clip.
  2. Press the Play button in the Viewer Pane and the clip or selection will play.

By clicking the gear in the top-right corner of the browser, the size of clips can be increased or decreased in order to change the amount of media that can fit in the browser.
