Adapters - Commonly used adapters to connect to external displays
This document provides adapters commonly used to connect to external displays (projectors, monitors, televisions, etc.)
Adapters
- USB-C to VGA***
- Many computers and mobiles devices use this to connect to devices with VGA output
- An additional audio cable will be needed if audio is desired
- DisplayPort to VGA
- PCs use this to connect to devices with VGA output
- An additional audio cable will be needed if audio is desired
- Mini DisplayPort (Thunderbolt) to VGA
- Mac computers use this to connect to devices with VGA connections
- An additional audio cable will be needed if audio is desired
- HDMI to VGA
- Often used when a laptop has an HDMI output but the device only has VGA connections available
- An additional audio cable will be needed if audio is desired
- Used for both Macs and PCs
- USB-C to HDMI***
- Many computers and mobile devices use this to connected to devices with HDMI output
- Audio will also be carried through this connection
- DisplayPort to HDMI
- PCs use this to connect devices with HDMI connections
- Audio will also be carried through this connection
- Mini DisplayPort (Thunderbolt) to HDMI
- Mac computers use this to connect to devices with HDMI connections
- Audio will also be carried through this connection
*** Mac computers have been known to have difficulty to connecting to external displays utilizing USB-C type connections. For connecting Macs, be sure to utilize Thunderbolt 3, looks identical to USB-C, connections to ensure proper connectivity. ***
