Duo - MFA Enrollment

Duo is a Multi-Factor Authenticator (MFA) that adds a second layer of security to your NetId account. Verifying your identity using Duo (with your phone or other mobile devices) prevents unauthorized access to an account even if the password has been compromised/stolen. DUO enrollment is a required process to begin using DUO protected services. DUO enrollment can be performed via DUO enrollment email, DUO Device Management Portal (DMP), or by authenticating into systems (except TitanWeb/Admin) that are protected by DUO. Successful use of MFA is dependent on having the device on you. If you do not have access to the device and are unable to complete authentication when prompted, access will be denied.

Enrolling Your Phone or Tablet in Duo

Step 1: Identity Proof with Helpdesk

You must bring two forms of ID to the Helpdesk. More information regarding the Identity Proofing process.

Note: If you do not wish to use your phone or tablet for this enrollment, the HelpDesk can provision a FOB security token.

Step 2: Access Duo Device Management Portal

2a. Go to https://netid.uwosh.edu/duo/
2b. Enter your NetID and Password
Duo DMP Login

Click "Start setup" to begin enrolling your device.


Step 3: Choose Your Authentication Device Type

Select the type of device you'd like to enroll and click "Continue". We recommend using a smartphone for the best experience, but you can also enroll iOS/Android tablets.


Step 4: Enter your phone number

4a. Select your country from the drop-down list 
4b. Enter your phone number.
4c. Check the box to verify your entry 
4d. Then, click Continue


Step 5: Verify Phone Number Ownership.

Please verify the ownership of the phone number by clicking the Call me button. Enter the 6-digit code provided, then click the Continue button to verify.

Note: A user will be asked to verify ownership of their phone number during enrollment if that number is already associated with a device that was previously enrolled by another user in Duo. 

Note: If you are enrolling a tablet, you are not prompted to enter a phone number.


Step 5: Choose Platform

If you selected the mobile phone option in step 3, you will be prompted to choose your device operating system and click Continue


Step 6: Install Duo Mobile

Follow the platform-specific instructions on the screen to install Duo Mobile App. After installing the app, return to the enrollment window and click, "I have Duo Mobile installed".


Step 7: Activate Duo Mobile

Performing this step links the app to your NetId account so you can use it for authentication. On iPhone, Android, and Windows Phone activate Duo Mobile by scanning the barcode with the app's built-in barcode scanner. Follow the platform-specific instructions for your device.

NOTE: If unable to scan barcode, Click "Email me an activation link instead". Check your email and follow the instructions to activate your Duo Mobile App.


Click the "Continue" button after you scan the barcode successfully. 


Step 8: Enrollment Successful

Any of the images below indicates that your device has successfully been enrolled in Duo MFA. If you see the image to your right, click on the Dismiss button to manage/configure your device.

On When I log in, select the "Automatically send this device a Duo Push". Click the "Save" button to save your preferred method of authentication, and close the tab.
